In one or two sentences, please explain your role in the court reporting or legal support industry.
I'm a freelance court reporter providing reporting and transcription. I beta test for several software companies and offer consulting and training services.
What has your involvement with AAERT looked like? How long have you been a member and how many conferences and events have you attended?
I have served on the Board of Directors for the past three years. Prior to that, I was a member of the Advocacy Committee. I currently serve on both the Professional Development Committee and the CER Practical Task Force. Additionally, I have presented at the annual conference twice, attended four conferences, and participated in the Unity Summit.
How would you describe your dedication to the mission and purposes of AAERT during your membership up to this point? How has that dedication been demonstrated?
I’ve been dedicated to AAERT’s mission by staying actively involved throughout my membership. Over the past three years, I’ve served on the Board of Directors, presented at two annual conferences, and contributed to the Advocacy and Professional Development Committee as well as the CER Practical Test Task Force.
Through these roles, I’ve worked to promote education, support professional standards, and help strengthen the AAERT community.
What are your key reasons for running for the board? Whom and what do you want to impact? What strengths do you feel you would bring to the board?
I'm running because I want to help bring more unity between all methods of court reporting and keep pushing for greater acceptance and recognition of digital reporting. Certification is important to our credibility, and I want to keep advocating for it across the industry.
I want to make a difference for current and future members by helping them grow professionally and by helping industry leaders see the value we bring. It's about building a stronger future for all of us.
I have 25 years of experience across all three methods of court reporting. I've worked in reporting, transcription, management, and production, so I understand every part of the business. As a freelance reporter, I’m not tied to any agency or corporation, which allows me to bring an independent, balanced voice to the Board.
What do you feel are the greatest challenges and opportunities that our industry and our association face?
A major challenge we face is dispelling the myths and misinformation about digital reporting. We need to keep advocating for the trained professional in the room and continue expanding education and certification to strengthen our credibility.
On the opportunity side, advancements in technology and AI can be powerful tools to support — not replace — the human reporter. With the ongoing shortage of court reporters nationwide, digital reporting offers a real, viable solution. If we stay focused on education, advocacy, and growth, AAERT and its members can lead the way forward.
What is the single most important thing that AAERT can do to fulfill its mission?
AAERT must advocate for greater recognition of digital reporting and promote unity across all court reporting methods, while strengthening certification and professional standards.
What kind of leadership experience would you bring to the board? Do you have experience as a board member of a nonprofit organization? Please list the organizations, your positions, and your duties.
I have been involved with various boards over the past 15 years, mostly related to my children's activities. Serving on the AAERT Board of Directors for the past three years has been my first experience with a professional association board. I currently serve on the board of the South Park BMX track, where I assist with fundraising, clinics, and officiating races. Additionally, I am the Secretary of the Hempfield Choral Parents Association. My responsibilities include supporting fundraising efforts, recording meeting minutes, organizing donations, and communicating with the School Board.
In what way would you like to learn and grow as an AAERT board member professionally and/or personally?
I want to keep building on what I’ve learned during my time on the board. I’m excited to find new ways to connect with members, strengthen unity across the industry, and help AAERT keep moving forward. I’m also looking forward to learning from other board members and staying flexible as our profession continues to change and grow.
