In one or two sentences, please explain your role in the court reporting or legal support industry.
I oversee and manage the training and education of court reporters in both digital and steno.
What has your involvement with AAERT looked like? How long have you been a member and how many conferences and events have you attended?
I'm sorry to say I'm not really sure how many years, but my first one was in Rhode Island, 2017/2018 maybe and I have attended each year since.
How would you describe your dedication to the mission and purposes of AAERT during your membership up to this point? How has that dedication been demonstrated?
I am a firm believer in a membership that supports its members as AAERT does. I encourage every student that enrolls with us to become a member and push for certification.
What are your key reasons for running for the board? Whom and what do you want to impact? What strengths do you feel you would bring to the board?
Being a steno reporter all of my career, teaching for so many years, and watching and being involved as technology has changed, allows me to be an advocate that all methods work. Having that experience I hope would allow me to reach those reporters who might be skeptical.
What do you feel are the greatest challenges and opportunities that our industry and our association face?
The challenge is public awareness. More people need to take the time to understand what the skills that digital reporters need to know, and how they actually do their job. The opportunities are endless. There is always a need for someone to be capturing a record, regardless of the method.
What is the single most important thing that AAERT can do to fulfill its mission?
Continue to require certification, require continuing education.
What kind of leadership experience would you bring to the board? Do you have experience as a board member of a nonprofit organization? Please list the organizations, your positions, and your duties.
I was on the Board of Directors for the New Jersey Court Reporters Board. Collaborated with my peers on topics related to court reporting in New Jersey and the lack of qualified reporters. I feel I could bring core values of what education needs to be in the industry and the requirements of producing qualified and certified digital court reporters.
In what way would you like to learn and grow as an AAERT board member professionally and/or personally?
Sharing with others in similar professions and listening to ideas and solutions.
