AAERT Milestone: VA Approval Opens Doors to GI Bill, prepaid education plan funds

AAERT is proud to announce that its certification exams have received formal approval from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. This milestone means candidates can now use GI Bill benefits and 529 prepaid tuition plans to cover the cost of certification exam fees, study materials, and related expenses.

The approval not only makes AAERT certifications more accessible to veterans, service members, and students, but also strengthens the profession by providing a pathway for new talent to enter the digital court reporting and transcription industry.

“This VA approval is more than just an administrative milestone. It’s a statement that our profession is worthy of national investment, and that AAERT certifications stand at the pinnacle of the industry,” said AAERT President Susan LaPooh, CER, CDR. “By opening the door to those with GI Bill funds and prepaid tuition plans, we’re not only making certification more accessible, we’re also inviting a whole new generation of skilled professionals into this growing field.”

Don’t forget to carefully review and follow the Exam Instructions and Guidelines, including registering for the exam at aaert.org, waiting for the exam confirmation email from Realtime Coach, and then scheduling your practice exam and actual exam.

The VA instructs GI Bill recipients to pay for the exam expenses first and then submit VA Form 22-0803, "Application for Reimbursement of Licensing or Certification Test Fees," to the VA for reimbursement. Holders of 529 prepaid tuition plans should check with their plan administrators regarding how to receive funds.
