- Does the Association share members' information
with third parties?
No. The on-line membership directory listings are not public
— and, in any event, include only standard address
information.
These restricted listings are NOT accessible to so-called "Web spiders"
which search out e-addresses for junk or fraudulent e-mailings, or for
other purposes.
- What is done with the extra information AAERT gathers
when someone joins, such as whether I work in the public or private sector,
or if I'm a reporter or a transcriber, etc.?
These details are maintained within AAERT's own database so we can have a
general idea of the demographic makeup of our overall membership.

Are on-line transctions conducted via a secure site?
Yes. Plus, you can rest assured AAERT does not ask for,
nor are we provided, any of your credit history or other financial
information.

I notice a password is needed to enter the members-only
area. Who assigns the password?
You can select your own password, or we can choose one for
you. It can be one totally
unrelated to any other password(s) you may use for other purposes.
Our passwords are used ONLY for gaining access to the members area.
They are never required for any financial
transactions with AAERT, such as joining or renewing memberships on line,
or registering for our
annual E-Reporting and
Transcribing Conference.
- Are "cookies" involved in the public pages of aaert.org?
No.
- What about the members-only area? Are "cookies"
involved there?
Yes. However, AAERT's access "cookie" is a temporary one, and
is automatically erased whenever a member logs off, or merely closes
the Internet browser.
That's why you must re-enter your password each time you return to the
members area — we do not permit Internet browsers to memorize it or
automatically recall it for you. Our site was specifically designed
that way for everyone's protection.
Our "cookie" does NOT track your Internet surfing, and reports nothing to
us or to anyone else — it merely confirms that you are a person
authorized to enter the members area.
